'THE BOOR'

The collaborative project The Moving Theatre presents two performances of Anton Chekhov's one-act "The Boor" Friday, Sept. 2, at the Fluorescent Gallery, 627 N. Central St.

The event collaborates the play with work from and by local performing and visual arts. Admission to the gallery is free; donations are accepted.

The 15-minute performances of "The Boor" are at 6:30 and 9 p.m. The event incudes an exhibition of local artworks. Those works include paintings by Ocean Starr Cline and Robert H. Thompson, metal sculpture by Gregory Tune, woodworking by Timmy Arnold. The event also features costuming by Burke Brewer of Modern Seamstress, costuming by Brigid KO, hair/makeup by Brynn Crowell of Lox Salon, set dressing by Architectural Antics, and music by Laith Keilany.

In addition to gallery display, play performances incorporate at least one piece from each artist.

EMPORIUM EXHIBITS

Five new exhibits presented by the Arts & Culture Alliance open 5-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, with a public reception at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay St. The exhibits remain open through Sept. 30.

The exhibit "Slot Machine" by Stephen Reid Carcello in the downstairs gallery uses the popularity of coloring pages and mobile apps as inspiration. "We The People," an exhibit by Antuco Chicaiza, is in the balcony gallery. "Projects," an exhibit of painting, drawing and construction by Emily Taylor, is in the display case. Works by Anthony Donaldson, who is a Knox Area Transit bus driver, will be shown on the gallery's north wall. "Cosmic Order," which is an exhibit of works by Eurichea Showalter Subagh Ball, is in the atrium.

Exhibit hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays with additional hours of 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sept. 13.

FRUTOS LATINOS

The annual art exhibit "Frutos Latinos" opens Friday, Sept. 2, at HoLa Hora Latina, in the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay St.

The annual art exhibit shows work by 15 artists and includes paintings, photographs, ceramics and sculptures. An artist reception is 5-9 p.m. Sept. 2. The art exhibit is at the Emporium noon-5 p.m. Sept. 6 through Sept. 9 before moving to the Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World's Fair Park, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 7.

'RED RIDING HOOD'

The Oak Ridge Junior Playhouse presents "The Tale of the Red Riding Hood" based on the fairy tale for its final show at 2 p.m. today at the Oak Ridge Playhouse, 227 Broadway in Oak Ridge.

In this version of the story, a young girl named Rowan disobeys her mother as she travels on a wooded path to her grandmother's house. First Rowan speaks to a stranger and then she wanders from the path.
