The Hamptons art season kicks into full gear early this summer with the return of Art Hamptons, the region’s longest-running fair, slated for June 23 through 26 in Bridgehampton. Now in its ninth edition, the fine art fair attracts more than 70 exhibitors, including the local Karyn Mannix Contemporary, New York– and Paris-based Galerie Bruno Massa, Cuba’s Galería Habana, Istanbul’s Merkur, and New York’s Emmanuel Fremin Gallery.
July 7 sees the concurrent openings of Art Southampton and Market Art + Design. Art Southampton — run by the same organization that presents Art Miami and Context — continues through July 11 in a pavilion on the grounds of Nova’s Ark Project, a sprawling sculpture park created by artist Mihai “Nova” Popa, who died in 2009. Market Art + Design — now in its second year — was established in 2011 under the name Art Market Hamptons. The fair runs at the Bridgehampton Museum through July 10, boasting a roster of more than four dozen galleries from around the globe showcasing contemporary art and design.
The same weekend, gala season on the East End launches with the Parrish Art Museum’s annual Midsummer Party, taking place July 9 in Water Mill and expected to draw nearly 1,000 attendees. On view at the museum through July 24 is “Radical Seafaring,” a show exploring artistic uses of bodies of water, with participants including the Center for Land Use Interpretation, Mary Mattingly, and Swoon. At the Parrish, “Platform: Jonah Bokaer” opens July 9 and “Unfinished Business: Paintings from the 1970s and 1980s by Ross Bleckner, Eric Fischl, and David Salle” on July 31. The Watermill Center hosts its annual gala, this year themed “House of Madness,” on July 30.
